Antenna Solutions for Next Generation Enhanced Wireless Sensing Systems

Edited by Masood Ur-Rehman, Abdul Jabbar, Muhammad Ali Imran, Qammer Abbasi

Antennas have evolved beyond telecommunications to support sensing, wireless power transfer, and energy-harvesting electronic systems. As wireless technologies move toward intelligent and interconnected infrastructures, electromagnetic and radio-frequency sensing are becoming essential components of next-generation healthcare monitoring and smart environments, as well as industrial inspection and autonomous systems. To fully leverage these opportunities, such systems require interdisciplinary expertise ranging from fundamental antennas and propagation research to active antennas and applied radio-frequency technologies, as well as circuits and systems, advanced materials, and AI and machine learning.

This edited book covers interdisciplinary applications with emphasis on antenna-based sensing, RFID, and multi-functional diversity antennas for joint communication, sensing, and wireless power transfer. Emerging and well-established topics are explored, including research on antenna-based and wireless sensors that incorporate novel physical concepts. By bringing together contributions from multiple EM sensing perspectives, this book provides a unified resource for understanding how antenna technology is redefining the landscape of electromagnetic sensing. It highlights advances in antenna configurations, sensing architectures, fabrication techniques, artificial intelligence-assisted sensing, wearable and implantable devices, sustainable and circular electronic systems, integrated sensing and communication platforms, and programmable metasurface antennas and reflective surfaces, for the EM sensing domain.

Antenna Solutions for Next Generation Enhanced Wireless Sensing Systems is written for researchers, engineers, and students working at the intersection of antennas, electromagnetic metamaterials, wireless systems, signal processing, and RF sensing technologies across microwave, mmWave, and THz regimes. The book will also be of interest to those working in the closely related fields of IoT, electronics, energy harvesting, RF and microwave engineering, circuits and systems, and advanced electromagnetic materials.
