Control, Communication, Monitoring and Protection of Smart Grids
Smart grids enable efficient integration of rising shares of distributed and intermittent renewable power generation at various scales, and variable loads, for example from electric vehicles. This requires sophisticated communication and computation, as well as monitoring and protection from both malfunctions and malicious interference.
Control, Communication, Monitoring and Protection of Smart Grids summarises recent developments in the field. It begins by reviewing the principles of smart grids and microgrids, and their relation to renewables and power electronics. Ensuing chapters deal with renewable energy integration in smart grids, adaptive control, reinforcement learning, advanced and robust control, bi-directional virtual inertia, fault direction identification, smart grid protection, cyber-power grid monitoring, condition monitoring and health prognosis, and PV integrated EV charging in V2G/G2V operation. A final chapter brings together case studies from various countries.
This book offers a series of broad of perspectives on important questions in the field of smart grids and their control, for researchers involved with power grids, as well as those in electrical and computer engineering in the power industry.
