Hybrid energy systems are essential for combining different clean generation technologies into a clean and stable power system, incorporating solar, wind and hydropower, as well as energy storage solutions.

This book is written by a group of experts from Asia and Europe, bringing together expertise in handling power distribution for regions with high population density, where demand for electricity is high and continues to rise. Hybrid energy systems are explored in the context of this high-demand environment.

Chapters cover stability analysis, various combinations of generators such as wind and solar, and solar-wind-biomass, harmonizing PV and wind, energy storage, operation and planning, distributed optimization, reactive power management, energy management in smart mesh networks, hybrid renewable energy integration in smart grids, and microgrids, transaction strategies in energy markets, smart transmission, optimization algorithms for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of PV under shading, and distribution networks with shunt capacitors and on-site generation. Case studies reinforce the lessons learned.

About the Editors

Huu Hieu Nguyen is rector of Danang University of Science and Technology - The University of Danang, Vietnam. Prior to that, he was doctoral/postdoctoral researcher at Grenoble Electrical Research Center of Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France. He was involved with national-level projects including research on optimizing the distribution grid using renewable energy sources, and manufacturing of surveillance robots for automating unmanned substations.

Bui Van Ga is a professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Transport, Danang University of Science and Technology, Vietnam. Prior positions include rector of Danang University of Science and Technology, president of the University of Danang, vice minister of education and training, Vietnam. He was doctoral/postdoctoral researcher at Ecole Centrale de Lyon (France). He is General Editor of the journal Science and Technology - The University of Danang.

Thanh Viet Dinh is an associate professor and vice rector at Dong A University, Vietnam. He has served as a visiting scholar at Washington State University (USA), the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (Germany), and Grenoble Institute of Technology (France). His research interests include power system analysis, transmission and distribution networks, renewable energy, and smart grid technologies, with a strong focus on advancing sustainable and resilient energy systems.

Minh Quan Duong is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Danang University of Science and Technology - The University of Danang, Vietnam. He has been a visiting scholar at Arizona State University and Indiana University in the United States, as well as the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies in Germany. His research interests include renewable energy in power systems, power system planning, and smart grids.

Tran T. Hoang is a senior planning engineer at Powerco, New Zealand. He completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering at G2Elab, Grenoble Institute of Technology, France, in 2020. He subsequently worked at the National Institute of Solar Energy, French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (2020-2022), as a research fellow at the University of Auckland, New Zealand (2022-2023), and as a principal power system consultant at Mott MacDonald, New Zealand (2023-March 2025).
